sleepover.

these days are strangely disjointed. more than other seasons, the holiday season is strange because, from the fringes, i can see people who have jobs and homes and who are settled in that way, dealing with their holiday/spare time. people who are tied down to an activity most of their week, /year getting a chance to relax and luxuriating in it. i can't really - or i feel i can't, which is the same thing - afford to do the same. i keep catching moments, like i was doing before.
so i'm about 3 posts behind already. last weekend i was at my parents' for the much-planned sleepover at their cottage. they finally have electricity there, so we stayed overnight.

here's a good start for our trip: getting stuck behind the cow herd of the village all the way through, til they took a detour to the fields.

and managing a longer than usual look at the local bar scene.

inside the house, i found my favourite window spot all taken over by dried medicinal herbs.

we brought bedding stuff, things are serious!

from the balcony, everything looks pretty much as usual

closer up, results of my mum's gardening

my dad had hay and was worried that nobody would take it off his hands.

forget electricity - biggest improvement since my last visit: the fence to the flower garden.

we had to gather the crops before we got to eat.

and after lunch, i finally got to make my bed in the window, the way i'd been promised.

in the meantime, dad found a neighbour to donate the hay to.

in the evening...we made a fire (for the atmosphere, and to drive away the mosquitoes with our smoke) and were shelling peas outside. two minutes after this picture, it started to rain like crazy.

top of the morning: i've barely woken up, and my father is already back from the woods with the requisite mushroom capture.

picture of the weekend: my mum being smaller than a flower.
so yeah, the weird weather made it hard to sunbathe and we were even too drowsy to walk around a lot, as we'd hoped, but we made up for it by eating a lot, and i do notice that any weekend in the countryside is restful for city people. more on that, soon.
