my `women of westeros`playlist (in progress; spoilers!!)
i will always make playlists for things i`m thinking of, so nothing unusual thus far. it just occurred to me that i wanted to share a bit of my ...processes with people who know GOT and sympathize with the female characters in there. it`s a tough life for those girls, it is known. here`s my list:

it started from this:
1. (sansa) : florence and the machine - rabbit heart (raise it up)
sansa is the easiest really, everybody's blank canvas. lots of songs these days with a female voice could be about her, i guess. i like 'rabbit heart' because it's full of awareness.
then i got hooked on this song, from a previous GOT trailer:
2. (lady stoneheart) : ms mr - bones
and i thought that it really fit LS rather than just the series in general. then i immediately came up with something similarly obsessive and sinister:
3. (lady stoneheart) : delta rae - bottom of the river
river, riverlands and doom.
and since the other stark women were covered, this companion piece made some sense:
4. (arya) : first aid kit - wolf
mostly because it strongly relates to her warging experiences.
and i thought of the next one for arya first, but then i decided it would be suited for both her and sansa, mostly due to the theatrical set-up that makes me think of arya's new chapter 'mercy' where she plays sansa, and of the parallels between their stories:
5. (stark girls) : man man - head on (hold on to your heart)
so these came to me pretty quickly and organically. then i took a longish break from it, until i stumbled upon this gem:
6. (shireen/dragonstone) : laurie anderson - freefall
there`s a mysterious and tragic undertone to shireen's story, but most of it is the mantle of her circumstances, i think - dragonstone marked her with greyscale, patchface hangs around her with his lugubrious semi-prophecies, melisandre sees things she can't interpret, so you just know there's no way this girl will survive. i thought the song captured that drowning feeling - plus ok, drowning and baratheons, it figures.
7. (daenerys) : neko case - people gotta lotta nerve
because dany is true to her fire-and-blood nature and she has empathy for the mistreated, which she turns into anger at the status quo.
8. (cersei) : hannah sheehan - rust
obscure song, but it rang true to me from its sweet tone (cersei is well-behaved, gracious in public) to the wonderfully contrasting lyrics. a bit more direct than `the rains of castamere', but yeah, the exact same thing in the end.
9. (arianne) : gabriela cilmi - sweet about me
for arianne i was looking for something more seductive, playful, and indeed, she is textbook example for making the mistakes before pretending to have learned her lesson.
10. (ygritte) : the organ - don't be angry
i loved ygritte and it is hard to pick one song, but i think i picked the band right. 'the organ' sound is outspoken and heartbreaking. i could have taken any of about 4 songs of theirs, but i chose this one as a memorial ballad of sorts, don't be mad at me.
full subjectivity kicks in. not that the rest of these weren`t subjective.
11. (brienne) : the heartless bastards - sway
i love brienne and she's such a girl, but she hits like a man. so i needed both melody and strength for a song of hers, and a sort of an honest/open/larger-than-life feel. not to mention the lyrics, which....all the lyrics in this list fit, ok? let's just leave it at this and you can look them up. but anyway, 'heartless bastards' is my band choice for brienne, with the cherry-on-top that most of their songs feel like they're made to be played on the road.
and i didn't mean to do anything shippy, but here's a slight brienne/jaime, because i can't help it. but only slight, i swear.
12. (brienne/(jaime)) : the heartless bastards - parted ways
looking for songs for:
-lyanna stark
-ashara dayne (my love)
-elia martell
-the sand snakes
-the mormont girls (goodness, the fun in just contemplating it)
-myrcella baratheon
+ possibly more/better songs for everyone else.
