a mixed bag of ornate stuff

the snow is gone from the roof in front of my window.
good.
though there was some frozen rain 2 days ago and some snowflakes yesterday, who even cares anymore. rain though, the unfrozen kind, could be a problem later on... uh-oh, spotting problems ahead of time. it's sunny today, and things are fine.
it's nice enough to walk, but not fully-fledged spring yet, not the kind with tables outside cafes and blooming things in parks. there are seagulls - hearing them scream at this point is as warming to me as standing in the sun.
my most recent pictures are not season-related though, or only very obliquely so. like, because i'm not rushing in the street to go home or into the closest metro stop, i take time to look at building fronts, and here are a couple of my favourites downtown:
the caron building
and st. james united church.

also, i saw this posted at metro jarry on april 1st, so i can't be sure about it

i made a point of wearing my desigual coat out one day. it's such a finnicky thing, i was sort of anxious of breaking it in. i'm glad to report it went without incidents (i did pass by a lady downtown who had an embroidered dark red/green coat, almost as extravagant-looking as mine, and we smiled at each other complicitly.)
yeah, and i wasn't going to take selfies of me in the coat out in the street, and doing so in the house strikes me as a bit too much, so i dunno, here's a photo of just the coat again, just so you see what i mean:
it's still going to be tough to wear, but i push myself by arguing that now is the perfect weather for it.
so on a windy and otherwise empty day i took a walk to the st michel flea market. it's a huge warehouse in an ugly desolate place, full of all the knicknacks you could possibly imagine.
yes, there be dragons. (wolves too, but i botched that picture even worse that this one, sorry)
also, victorian sofas on sale for more than my monthly budget.
not knowing what i was getting into, i had actually hoped to maybe pick up some inexpensive bits of furniture. forget about it, this place sells VINTAGE. it's all...the only cheap things are the actually visibly cheap things. but definitely fun to walk around, possibly for hours. yes i got lost and had to ask for directions to the exit, why do you ask?
glassware grouped on colors
i am completely puzzled as to why even i took this picture. to illustrate the random nature of the objects on display? gah.
this one, for example, is for the tapestry bit.
but seriously, i'm sure if i went regularly and had a budget for this, i could end up finding good stuff. if i went with someone for laughs, those would be good laughs.

so yes, i'm talking here and pretending not to notice that season 4 of game of thrones is starting, cause i don't have hbo, so whatever, not watching tonight. instead of which, i tried to do my part for celebration:

lemon muffins, please. or cupcakes? i still think they're too big to be cupcakes. the icing is sort of horrible, and, typically carmen, looks rough around the edges because why be patient with details once you've conveyed the message. does this convey the message???
it's going to be tough to eat these alone (i want to jump up to the ceiling just seeing this amount of icing, man. i'm overwhelmed. ) but i'll be thinking of you, girls, who should have been with me for this season premiere, and who could've done a much better job decorating.
still think the're pretty ok. the coconutty one is for jon snow (get it?) and the red one for the fire and blood girl.

Comments

  1. although I would have wanted to comment on the muffins/cupcakes ('cause, oh, my god!!! delicious and totally got the coconut one!!), my mind is still set on the glassware corner from that market you got lost in. tell me you bought something! please! please!
