april is...what it is

for the second time in a row, i came on my visit to the parents' cottage at the not-exactly-right time: a week or so (by the looks of it) before the daffodils/narcissi are ready to bloom. some days before the tree blossoms. i saw daffodils on the train, on my way to bistrita, and some peach blossom (my dad said) on the drive to the cottage. my family say it's because our land is next to the woods, blah/blah, therefore chilly and more shaded than normal gardens.
so i had to be content on our "long weekend" with just taking photos of the small common flowers/plants:
my mum's pansies...
i looked this up and they say it's called "lady's delight"...cool
my favourite early spring flowers! why is there a trend of lilac/mauve colored flowers at this point in time?
sorrel...edible, and always a joy to find in the grass
yellow, another fashionable spring color. these little flowers are everywhere, and they can make a sullen day look sunnier
it rained again!!!
the forecast was no rain, and it started out sunny, enough to lure us out to the cottage. gah!
however annoying, the rain was only slight - 2 short...not-even-showers through the afternoon. by the third, it was already evening and we packed and left.

some work got done:
-cleaning trees of overgrown etc branches
-raking dead leaves
-i was very keen (as always) on burning the piles of leaves, but we had only partial success, due to the rain
-weeding the flowers and planting some new ones
-frying sausages on the grill.

this branch that was shading our "yard" almost fell on the cottage. it was also thicker than i'd expected - the trunk gave us one wheelbarrowful of wood.

part of our impressive collection of gardening tools
a new mound that my mum started...her version of a stone garden, i think. ha!

i'll just conclude with some birdsong, in this "it's gloomy and i don't feel like raking leaves" video:

love,
c
