stories from zaragoza: our desigual adventure

there was lots of anticipation building up, as giulia and i were getting ready to go to spain. i think we even managed to go on google to see whether there are desigual stores in zaragoza.
(friend: "so what are you going to do in zaragoza?"
carmen: "ha! we're thinking of buying some coats from desigual!")
i'm not even kidding, you guys.

giulia and i came at it from maybe slightly different directions: she saw a girl at some film thing wearing an amazing coat...or that's what i'm gathering. i started slow (as always)  before actually having the epiphany: first some very colorful shirts in a boutique in montreal...then there must have been some sightings of coats in the streets, and finally, the fashion blogs! by the time i  registered that north american blogger ladies were very partial to this label, i was like aaaaaah, yes, of course, i've been seeing desigual all around, so that was desigual, okay!
the thing is, desigual clothes ('desigual' means 'unequal', which is cute, right?) have a very specific look to them. they're mostly all strong color and asymmetry, or jeweled buttons, or shiny thread detailing. most of their coats i had seen before were black in a slightly exaggerated trapezoidal shape, with random shiny embroidery and colored panels of different fabrics sewn into the front. (very barcelona too, if i may add.) i think i thought them too fancy for me (i would've worn a shirt, though....) until giulia opened my eyes to the potential. honestly i don't remember anymore, now the deed is done.

the deed was done like this: we were walking along calle alfonso on our first night in zaragoza, exhausted from the trip but somewhat revigorated after dinner. zero expectations, just trying to figure out where we were/how big the downtown was/ etc. haha, so: we see the desigual store. we get in. we get out in like...20 minutes maybe, carrying our logo bags with our coats in.

so...not exactly what i'd ever considered buying/wearing, ever! which only makes me happier that i got it. giulia got way more typical-desigual stuff, with the colors and the details. somehow in all the store i couldn't find a coat that fit and suited me better than this one. it's more classic, giulia says (though i still can't figure out what it means).

more words to the wise: this coat of mine is 100% acryllic, and definitely a spring outer layer, unless you live in san francisco and have good scarves. seriously. i bought it because it's showy and bold, not because it'll keep me warm - as for how well it actually wears, we will have to see about that.
any other stuff in that store....i would've bought 2 or 3 shirts if i were richer, but just maybe. and a bracelet.  i find their dresses tend to be most of the time either super-flimsy or clingy fabrics, which makes them not my favourites. also less colorful than shirts/coats (which i honestly don't understand!!!)

that being said, i am still generally a fan. here is their site for eventual/further perusal:
