summer in cluj (1)

1. just more wonderful sunset from my balcony. sometime between 7.30 and 9.00 pm every sunny evening, i feel like climbing the walls because my camera is not good enough so i can do justice to this light. i sort of want to have artistic photoshoots all over my floor and sofa, because any object or body looks so much stranger. for now, just the sun:

2. a walk around the lake, by iulius mall. the mall didn't yet exist when i left, and i suppose the around the lake bit looked quite a bit different. now it's pretty ideal for an afternoon stroll, if one could unsee the occasional plastic bottle and paper bag that's landed in weird places. part of the charm, i guess.

these fruit trees by the lake made giulia happy: the thrill of the...gathering, and the delicious reward - it was everything she'd wanted.

while i was very excited to see that it's not only montreal lakes that have ducklings!

as for fishermen, we know they're everywhere.

3. cooking nights : in our little get-togethers, the roles are clearly set - dana and(or) sonia cook, giulia and i eat. i'm assuming giulia washes the dishes...i think it's been decided that i tell stories. and sometimes hijack the music playlist.

these are two different nights: the eggplant parmesan...

...and the tagliatelle.

...actually two types of pasta. (p.s. sonia, i ate all your cherry tomatoes after you left!)

4. the museum square: terraces and concerts. our friend pat o'mahoney was playing that night with his band. the schedule was very tight, we tried to yell for an encore, but we only got an unofficial one - on the sidewalk under a tree, on a borrowed guitar. thank you pat!

5. my friend lari took me to see this teahouse - 'doamna T'. the name is inspired from a female character in a famous romanian novel of the era between the 2 World Wars. the suggestion is there...i have to go back over different seasons to see if the place lives up to it. but hey, so far so good.

isn't this pretty montreal-y though?

but this grafitti, not so much

6. not pictured in this post: open air movie night in the central square. the film was very funny, and featured some of the most beautiful people i've ever seen:

there were lots of people, and some knew better than others - after dark, here it gets cold already. sonia, always well prepared, brought a hoodie AND a blankie. ok i have to share this though:
