milestones

this has got to be the worst personal blog in the history of ever: rarely updated, and barely personal - for which i am sorry. the truth is i'm turning out to be a more worried parent than i'd ever imagined myself. the kid is doing fine now, but for how long? and i realize this train of thought has the potential to continue forever. so in another attempt at positive thinking, i'm offering some measly updates:
first up, we are going nowhere. this summer, or ever, apparently: my husband got his permanent residence. not the card yet, but he has the equivalent document, so alright. no flights to india (and 1000 vaccinations for the kid) or to romania, and no microchipping the cat. among other issues that i had with the alternative version of this.
lol, but now i have to figure out when and how i return to work, and also daycare solutions. not anything i'm looking forward to. actually yea, i'm sort of looking forward to stopping breastfeeding. mainly because right now i'm achieving it through medication and pumping, both of which i loathe. anyway, moving on.

the kid is 5 months old already! these are older pics, because...partly because i can't be bothered. but also, thy are supposed to be illustrative of stuff. such as:
tummy time. we've been practising furiously and this is a thing we're very good at. pic must be 2 months old - the kid could hold her head almost steadily even back then. now she's doing 10 mins at a stretch on her tummy like a champ - but still no rolling over. aaaahhh
in the meantime we graduated from the bassinet to a proper ikea crib - not pictured in this post, but is the size of half our salon (which says more about how small our salon is, as the crib is perfectly standard). imagine: the bassinet was getting too small for her at 4 months. plus she had a way of moving in her sleep and getting her legs out. less doable in the crib, but now she has more maneuvring space for turning upside down and other fantastical positions

these were attempts to prop her up into sitting up. the neck pillow proved unequal to the task and has since been retired.

more propping! on blankets. the most efficient way i've found so far is to sit her in a corner of the crib. but then various people have said maybe don't try too hard, she will sit in her own good time, etc. i also bought playmat squares from dollarama, but not using them enough - the floor just seems too hard for her, still; though maybe it isn't.

wow! grabbing things used to be a new exciting development? now she grabs absolutely everything and puts it in her mouth. some pre-teething behaviour, i guess, though how longer the "pre" will last is an ongoing question

passport picture. that's right, everybody in this household except me and the cat now has valid travel documents and etc.

finally short sleeves! though i still tend to give her long-sleeved pyjamas for the night, because she throws her blankets away in no time. also anytime we go out and it's under 21C. i don't know where i came up with this limit, but i did. at the same time, am terrified of the coming heat wave (36C, feels like 46 forecast for sunday), since we have no AC - what will we do to cool down? stay tuned....
*update: we're surviving, in just diaper and with two fans and overhead ventilators going crazy in the house
showcasing pretty summer dress, and the irresistible chubbiness of arms, wrists and ankles

aaand showcasing sunhat and sandals. that's pretty much it.
