this week: wall art, rain, kitchen stuff

it's raaaainyyyy and sooooo cooooold. and i'm going to the village tomorrow and contemplating the amount of mud i will unavoidably carry on my soles descending the hill.....
anyway: this week: mostly staying indoors, because coooolddd. but among the few times i went out, here's my visit to the bookstore my friend ema manages (in sigma center):
birds and flowers in the kids' corner. not pictured: balloons! also not pictured: ema (she refused haha. she had a very cute seal pinned to her dress though); me sitting down until i finished reading marjae satrapi's 'embroideries'

also a lunch i had 'in style' on the kaja tanya terrace (thank you lari!)

on one of the last days this terrace thing is still possible
i love how they're using the potted peppers as flowers

you assume this liquid below is tea, right? some people who know me might even assume it's coffee the way i make it...wrong!!! this is water from my kitchen faucet two days ago. apparently someone was working/repairing etc, something to do with the pipes in my building. fine!!!

and more rain, and gloominess, and waking up very late (falling asleep very late, but that's irrelevant.) i made a deal with myself to do at least two things per day (i.e. writing 3 e-mails is 1 thing; writing 1000 words is 1 thing; groceries+cooking some is 1 thing). at one point i did laundry because i didn't want to write.
edit: this photo disappeared for a while, but it's back to stay in its original place.

going out with the girls doesn't qualify as 1 thing, (reading doesn't either, so shut up) but checking out a new restaurant? totally counts! this is a thai place and for a while (haha) we thought we had vouchers for a free lunch. nope. aaand the food was an 'i could take it or leave it' - but here's this photo i took of a buffalo cow:

with a stork on its back. actually it's debatable where exactly that stork is perched and what it's doing there.

also: the afternoon of sonia telling us jokes. payback for the mythology stories, eh?
also: we went to the polus mall (my first time!) - the girls got countless pairs of jeans (well not countless, like 4 pairs?) and all i got was a muffin tray!

so here's what i made!

i swear half of the muffins are well-done (oatmeal-raisin-cinnamon!) - the overdone bits are the fault of the oven. the scones, bah! a slightly different story - i think i need to place them on paper, not directly on the tray, no matter how much i grease that tray. anyway these are all works-in-progress, carmen-learning-to-deal-with-her-instruments

meh, this should be the equivalent of the cookbook shot
so i put cheese in the scone dough, and a bit of thyme/rosemary. i ate half of them anyway, so there.

have a good weekend! back to getting mentally prepared for the morning bus/mud.
