trying trying

so last week i was trying to act springy as an incentive for the spring to come. i'm not good at doing this for a long time, but for a few days there's no harm. it was still cold and windy, and at this point 0 C is as bad as -20 was two months ago. seriously.
still: i went all out trying not to wear a hat (i had it in my bag, but i would only resort to it under extreme circumstances). and, silly enough, i considered this was the best time to try wearing feather earrings. because of course.

also melanie and i finally tried the mosaic project. this has been a plan for over 2 years now, people! the process seems pretty straightforward: apply cement on the wooden surface, then stick the tiles to it. i'm slightly worried that it might need a sealant of some sort, but i think that's the approximate equivalent of fixing the color on a painting, and i've never done that. (though i probably should. gah.)

not gonna lie, i'm pretty proud of this. not as much thought went into it, as enthusiasm ...and pretty tiles. i can use it as a paint box, or a fake planter...but basically it fits the atmosphere i want for my kitchen very well...only 3 sides are done as yet. but it's fun. makes me want to look for alternative tile sources.
(and yes, we learned about grouting. if i owned a place, i would do my window sills, then i'd start on my tables and chairs. as is, i still have a couple of wooden "boxes" to experiment on.)

then yesterday, sunday, i wake up to this:

march 30, 2014. i hope this is the last snow that matters/registers this season. it's spring, hello, didn't you get the memo?
gah. cue to staying in all day, sleeping. though i seriously wonder whether snow is worse at this point than a day of sustained, matter-of-fact rain. i guess we'll see what that feels like too.
anyway, yay. the best thing that today could have brought, and it did, was the sound THE SOUND of yesterday's snow melting. glorious. i sort of want to post a soundclip of it. it's not super-hot (duh) but it's sunny, and that makes up for a lot these days.
so i go out with the intention of passing by marche jean talon. there's this small parklet on my way:

can you see it from here? you should.
i did a double take and i crossed the street to see up close. (the dog in the picture was very eager to jump on me and play)

it says "love" in romanian. (gosh, is that a phone number?)
so yes, the market. i passed by the romanian store, and was reassured as to the big easter holiday ahead: anything i might need is definitely available.

egg-painting stuff. yep, i've decided that this year, for the first time in canada, i'm going to do some egg painting for easter. still don't know how exactly/how many etc, but it's gonna happen.
also they had cozonac cu nuca and pufuleti.

going to the market is not good for me, cause i somehow end up buying hipster beers. mostly for the names, of course. today i bought this

cinnamon clove blonde beer! as a mini-celebration for the end of winter.
but i also laughed at this:

i swear beer names in quebec deserve a post of their own
and, lo! i bought plants. a small one and a hanging one. i still don't know how i feel about the latter, it doesn't feel like a big clange... that's just a provisory place for it, i have to see how it reacts to the light, how it develops, i'll probably move it a bit away from the window.

i know i've waited for this spring as if it was going to improve everything, open doors and create an exciting life for me from scratch. i do know this is not how it goes. but it's better now. for sure it's better.
