ode to grey

this is what happens when obsession leaks out into daily life. everybody thinks i'm wearing ordinary grey clothes, only i know i'm wearing stark colours, and that's what matters.

this post was prompted by the observation that every single clothing item i've bought recently  has been  one or other shade of grey. not really 50 of them yet, god forbid. but still.
so, one of these days we were discussing finding shades of grey appropriate for each of the 6 stark kids. i'm bad with naming colors, but i do SO have the goods! which evolved into me trying to demonstrate the appropriateness of the various greys side by side, like this:

needless to say, not a staged picture: this is what i put on when i get out of the house. (i mean, i'm not saying the patterned one counts, let's say it doesn't count.)
then, one step further - wondering if i can catch on camera the ivory-pinky shade i envisioned, which i knew i had (the sansa grey) and how that would stand out from less fancy types of grey

then i bought shoes. and, by all means, do consider this a january sales post, if you wish! the pressure to take advantage of the sales is an old dear frenemy of mine. some years i face it better than others. this time, i had resolved i was buying shoes, so my contenders were a pair of golden(!) dr. martens, and what i ended up getting:

i mean, am i a bit chastened at how...conservative, cautious etc my tastes turned out to be? sure. on the other hand, i have never had grey shoes before that i remember of, so maybe this deserves a little fooling around. .

ah, and an angle that shows off the heel, which is bluish and scaly-ish, in good ecco tradition, and to keep up the GOT imagery:

hah! i didn't get to do a photo shoot for the boots i got last fall, what with the moving house and all, so this is sweet revenge.
so finally i gathered all the grey stuff i wear on a regular basis, except the 2 coats and 2 skirts and 1 pair of pants. i think your answers to shade questions may be found in here:

(bonus if you see what ELSE i did here,color-wise. thank you.)
