rain and rain and more rain

it was a weird time for a visit to the village, because all the forecasts said it was going to rain, and what do you do when it rains in the village? there's literally nothing to do. not even tv to watch. but we went anyway because....i think because we had decided, and we're the most non/spontaneous people ever? maybe.

so this is what the countryside looked like that morning, as soon as 8 a.m. no, wait:
- i woke up at 5.45 to catch the bus. it was raining! i could hear the rain from my bed, and it's a very pleasant sound, but not a good wake up call
- by the time i got to the bus station the rain had stopped, but i almost missed the bus, because they'd changed where it was leaving from etc
-on the way it started raining again! we were just going through the woods before my stop, and i was getting mentally prepared to get out and walk down the hill in the rain (i had an umbrella! and some nasty cold residues) when i look out and see my father! just walking by the side of the road. the funny part is that it never crossed my mind that my parents were there to pick me up!!! it was more like, i have a crazy father who likes walking in the woods in the rain, randomly at 8 a.m.
- my parents  had come with the car to pick me up!! yay.

during the rest of the day it rained about four or five more times. we'd be starting doing something outside (my mum had flowers to plant, dad was cleaning the hedges and the trees behind the house, then we had a project that involved carrying all the roof shingles we had around the garden/yard and depositing them in one single place), bam, rain! we'd put on raincoats, it would start raining harder!

there is water coming down the stream! which had been absent, due to drought, ever since june of last year. well not any more! some people have this habit of referring to the rain as if it's a good thing, and i guess i can see their point, but still...

the whole landscape just looks so sad and dreary. even if it's not wintry anymore, you could hardly call it springy. one of my biggest dissatisfactions was that we couldn't burn the piles of old leaves and thorns that we raked last year, nor the stuff we cleaned from the yard this time. anyway, there were some things that got done.

we have no chicken, but a lot did depend on our wheelbarrow that day. also, the perfection of my mother's work! glazed. in the rain. (she's always like "carmen, go on the terrace now! can't you see it's raining!" after which, of course, she keeps doing what she'd been doing as if it's the most natural thing in the world.)

i paid a short visit to my aunt, on the pretext of seeing their new lambs!

there were 5 lambs, but not all of them proved eager for internet fame
anyway, during this visit i slept most of the time, to everyone's amusement. i practically got there, sat on the bed and just drifted off. from time to time i'd wake up for a bit and say two or three sentences, then doze off again. i guess the rainy sleepy time caught up with me while i was away.

and here's warming up my nightgown before getting into bed. it's still the cold season in our old house!
spring, i want to like you, but you've got to be more serious about trying some!
love,
c.
